Every Trial challenges you to develop four key skills: Strength, Intelligence, Cunning and Luck. Each drafted card presents a tactical choice. Depart on an Adventure to increase the skill shown on the card or Rest to improve any skill while gaining a valuable Athena’s Favor token.
 
Your decisions shape a personal engine of skills across your Tales board. Carefully place Trial cards to strengthen your skill tracks, unlock valuable combinations and prepare for the challenges ahead. At the end of the game, Trial cards only score when your final skill values meet or exceed their difficulty level making every draft a calculated gamble.
 
Athena’s Favor tokens provide extra flexibility when your plan needs a divine intervention. Spend them to adjust the skills increased during an Adventure or trade them for valuable Tale tiles. Completing a row containing all four skills lets you collect Tale tiles, while gathering one of each Trial type, including Navigation, Encounters, Gods, Creatures and Ithaca can earn a powerful Epic tile bonus.
 
Odysseus also includes a dedicated solo mode featuring an automated opponent known as the Automa. With four adjustable difficulty levels, you can test your strategic thinking alone while discovering new ways to approach the challenges of the voyage.
