Space is bleak, unforgiving place that is absolutely terrible for a holiday. In Gloom in Space, you control a crew of doomed sci-fi heroes as they struggle through a galaxy filled with disasters, strange encounters along with spectacularly miserable fates. Your goal is wonderfully twisted: make your own crew suffer while trying to cheer up your opponents' characters.
 
Each player controls four unlikely spacefarers, with classic roles such as the Smuggler, Captain, Doctor and Dark Lord. On your turn, play two cards to reshape the story, adding miserable modifiers to your own crew or inflicting cheerful effects on rival characters. Events can completely derail the adventure, while Untimely Deaths bring each character closer to an appropriately grim conclusion.
 
The unique transparent card system lets cards stack directly over your characters, creating constantly evolving portraits of misery or unexpected happiness. Careful card placement can strengthen your strategy while making an opponent's crew far too cheerful for comfort.
 
As the galaxy fills with doomed heroes, the story becomes increasingly ridiculous. Characters may fight their fathers, meddle with mysterious monoliths, become trapped in compactors or suffer devastating attacks from orbit. Once enough Untimely Deaths have occurred, the game ends then the player with the most miserable surviving crew wins.
