Each turn begins with rolling custom tackle dice to determine your strength for the round. Will you brave the waves and push deeper into dangerous waters or retreat to port to sell your catch, gather provisions and restore your dwindling energy? The decision is never simple. Nine shoals across three depths hide fish of varying size and strangeness. While the shadows give only hints as to what lurks beneath. Flip the fish, spend your dice carefully and navigate a web of reveal and catch effects that can twist your fate at sea.
 
As the horrors grow more grotesque, you’ll accumulate Regrets, cards that reflect your mounting madness while empowering you with more dice and boosting the value of bizarre specimens. It’s a razor-edge balance: embracing madness may secure a legendary haul, but too many Regrets mean you’ll lose your most valuable mounted fish at game’s end. Resource management, risk assessment and tactical planning become essential as you chase the most profitable and most peculiar catch.
 
Deep Regrets also features a rich solo mode, perfect for fans of narrative solo board gaming. Play as an ichthyologist on a long-term mission to catch and catalogue every creature in the sea. Across a multi-game campaign, you’ll document the full bestiary on a dedicated catalog sheet, tracking names, depths, values and difficulties, while navigating the same push-your-luck tension of the core experience. Co-op play is also possible, allowing teams to face the eldritch ocean together.
