There’s something special about a room filled with Star Wars Legion tables. Dice clatter like distant blaster fire, commanders lean over battlefields deep in thought and every table tells a different story from across the galaxy.
Episode 1: Padawan Rises was our latest Star Wars Legion tournament held in Poole, Dorset, UK and it was everything we hoped it would be. A full day of games, laughter, tactical gambles and a shared love of the hobby that brought players together from across the local community and beyond.
For anyone curious about Star Wars Legion events in the UK or wondering whether tournaments are worth attending, this event was proof that they absolutely are.

Preparing a Star Wars Legion Tournament – Behind the Scenes
Running a Star Wars Legion tournament isn’t something that happens overnight. For us, preparation begins around three months in advance.
We designed the event as a 12-player tournament, with six fully built 3x6 tables. Each table had its own terrain rules card, making it easy for players to understand how to interact with the battlefield. A central display handled pairings, prizes and schedules so everything stayed on track running smoothly while being accessible.
Every player received a goodie bag filled with promo cards, tokens, stickers and faction-themed extras. Prizes were awarded not just for winning, but for best painted, best sportsmanship and even last place got to walk away with something, because every part of the community matters.
To keep things running cleanly, we used Longshanks to manage pairings and results. It allowed players to submit lists in advance and report scores quickly, which kept the day flowing without friction.
Terrain was one of our biggest focuses. Each table represented a different world, with a balance of heavy and light cover, varied elevation and meaningful tactical decisions. No two games felt the same, and that’s exactly what you want in a Star Wars Legion tournament setting.

The Day Itself – A Galaxy of Battles
When the doors opened, the energy in the room was immediate.
We had 12 players battling it out, with others dropping in to watch, ask questions and get a feel for the game. The atmosphere was relaxed but focused. Competitive, but never cutthroat.
Each round ran for two and a half hours, with three rounds across the day using a Swiss pairing system. That meant players were matched with others at similar performance levels, keeping games engaging from start to finish.
Every table felt like taking a jump to lightspeed and stepping onto a new planet. From fortified strongholds like the Clan Wren Stronghold to desert ambush zones with Tusken Raider camp, players weren’t just playing games, they were navigating stories.
The Rebel Alliance proved particularly popular, with a standout 14-activation Rebel list taking the top spot. Sleeper Cell units appeared across multiple lists, quietly shaping the battlefield in clever ways due to their current popularity in the faction.
What stood out most wasn’t just the games, but the moments between them. Players sharing tactics, laughing over dice rolls and staying after the final round just to talk about the day. That’s the heartbeat of the Star Wars Legion community.

What Players Learned – Strategy & Growth
If you want to improve at Star Wars Legion tournaments, the biggest lesson is simple: play with purpose.
Preparation matters. Most of our players refine their lists over several weeks, testing them regularly to understand timing, positioning and unit synergy. Repetition sharpens instincts.
But strategy goes beyond list building. The strongest players focused on objectives first, not eliminations. Legion rewards mission play, and those who adapted mid-game often came out ahead. Flexibility beats rigidity every time.
For newer players, the biggest takeaway was mindset. Don’t walk into your first Star Wars Legion tournament expecting to win. Walk in expecting to learn. Every game becomes a stepping stone and every opponent teaches you something new.
At our club, we actively support this growth. Weekly games, shared feedback and a variety of terrain setups help players build confidence and sharpen their skills for competitive play.
