Each development gives you a permanent gem bonus, making future purchases cheaper while helping your engine grow stronger throughout the game. On your turn, choose whether to collect gems, purchase a development or reserve a card for later. You can take three different gem colours, two of the same colour or claim a Gold token when reserving a card to act as a valuable wildcard. Reserving a tempting development can also deny it to a rival, adding another layer of tactical competition.
 
Prestige is the key to victory. Some developments provide immediate points, while others help you meet the requirements of influential nobles who may visit your guild with valuable prestige bonuses. Watch the central market, adapt to the cards appearing and then build your collection up before another player takes the opportunity you need. The game ends once a player reaches 15 prestige points which trigger one final round so everyone has an equal opportunity to respond.
